Black Lit Matters Mission
Our Goal is to promote literacy in and amongst the Black Community by focusing on Black Books, Black Authors, and Black Characters through our CornerstonePillars using the 4-C’s:
------------------------> Communication
------------------------> Community
------------------------> Content
------------------------> Collaboration
This is WHO we do it for!
Black Lit Matters continues to strive for a brighter tomorrow by putting as many Black authored books in as many black children’s hands as possible. Please continue to support by joining us during our weekly book club on Thursday at 8:00pm EST. or by purchasing our comfy Black Lit Matters T-shirt or Face Masks.
This is WHY we do it!
As 21st century educators, we understand the importance of literacy. As is with most parts of education, the black and brown students have been historically left out or just gravely underrepresented in school books. Being educators for over 25+ years, we have noticed the great divide in representation in the curriculum across most school districts in this country. So, we decided to be part of the solution. Our goal is to put as many Black authored books in the hands of as many Black and Brown kids as we can.
Be sure to continue to support our great cause by shopping for our latest comfy apparel. Feel free to join us on Zoom each and every Thursday at 8pm est. Also, share our website link, help create a Black Lit Matters Buzz & be sure to follow us on all of our Social Media Platforms listed below!
Thank you and continue reading,
Black Lit Matters
As educators and lifelong learners, it is our passion to not only promote literacy but to also uplift books that are a reflection of black and brown children and adults. Our people must see themselves reflected in literature to enlighten, expand and expose them to the potpourri of shades, perspectives and creativity that our culture possesses. In addition, it is imperative that we model the expectation and that is done by reading more and putting high interest level books in the hands of our community members written by black authors, focused on black characters and inspired by black experiences! Join the movement by donating books or purchasing shirts & masks in order for Black Lit Matters to Matter to Black Children.
